[SOLVED] Fedora 13 guest desktop doesn't resize anymore

Post by axel.azerty »

I m running Virtualbox 3.2.6 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (up to date). My guest is a Fedora 13 (up to date) system with the guest additions installed.
The desktop used to be resized when I was switching to full screen or to windowed mode. When I was resizing the guest window, the desktop resolution of the guest was resized automatically too.

Since today (maybe due to an update of Fedora 13 ?), the guest desktop doesn't resize anymore. I try to uninstall the guest additions, reboot the guest and then reinstall the additions, but it didn't fix this strange behaviour.

So, how could I fix it or even try to debug this problem ?

Thanks in advance.

I ll add that the window size isnt saved when I shutdown the guest. When I restart the guest, the window is maximized to the full size available on Mac OSX.

I add the log file from Virtualbox.

Make sure that you linux kernel and headers match. This usually happens when you do not have dkms installed that keeps them in sync.
You can also look at /var/log/vboxadd-install.log to check for errors.

They match and DKMS is installed. No error is reported when I reinstall guest additions.

The behaviour is strange. At guest startup, the window is automatically maximized once Xorg start, then the desktop is automatically resized to match the window size (which is still maximized), giving a weird resolution (1440x743 or something like that), so I assume that the guest vbox video driver partially works. If i reduce the size or I switch to full screen, the guest desktop isn't resized.

Is the option to enable dynamic resolution changes on in the Machine menu? Sounds like it isn't, or something else doesn't trigger the change. You can go to seamless, right? That should resize the Guest too.

OMG I didn't notice that there was an option for that.
The option was indeed disabled. The shortcut is Host+G, and probably due to a miss keypress I disabled it when switching to fullscreen, since the "F" for fullscreen is really near of the "G" key :)

Sorry for the noise, and thanks you very much for your help !

I'm envious. I to am using OSX Snow Leopard (10.6.4) on my 27" iMac, VBox 3.2..6 and running Fedora 13 as a guest. I never had any issue with Full Screen mode. My issue is getting System>Preferences>Desktop Effects to run in Fedora. When I switch to Compiz, the whole Mac freezes up.

Have you tried Desktop Effects yet? Otherwise Fedora runs great.

When I try to launch the "Desktop effetcs" tool, it crashes, as does the glxinfo tool.
??[axel@f13 ~]$ glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
[axel@f13 ~]$ desktop-effects
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Your luck with Desktop Effects is the same as mine. I've eliminated all that I can. Mostly all I can do is wait for an update.
