DVD playback disabled?

Total noob here, just barely got XP installed through VB on my Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) macbook.

I'm trying to access DVD media (trying to test the DVD in a WinXP environment), but no discs are playing back. The OS recognizes DVDs, displays their names correctly, and even auto-loads the DVD playback software, but then I get this error:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installer on your computer."

Is there support for DVD playback?

Thank you for any help!

Default XP does NOT have DVD playback software. WMP sucks, especially on XP. Get that fixed first. You would get the same error with a Bootcamp install or on a normal PC.

If the DVD has copy protection, you MUST enable passthrough for the physical drive, else it won't play. You will get no video, no error or anything).
