AMD Opteron 270 and AMD-V?

I have a dual cpu system (Tyan motherboard) which has two AMD Opteron 270 CPU's.

Currently, VirtualBox reports that my system does not support AMD-V and wikipedia confirms that the Opteron 270 CPU does not support AMD-V (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AM ... processors).

What does this mean for me in practice? What am I missing now that my CPU's do not support AMD-V?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

It means that you will only be able to run 32-bit guests without SMP.

As your host has only 2 CPUs the missing guest SMP feature doesn't hurt IMHO

Ah, I see.

No problem then, I'm currently running 4 emulations, one per cpu core.

Thank you for your explanation!

I beleive that some of the info here is incorrect.

If you have 2 opteron 270's you have four cores total.

Also, these are 64 bi cpu's so why wouldn't you be able to run a 64 bi guest, albeit only with one cpu?

Without AMD-v you can't run 64-bit guests in VirtualBox. Same with VT-x for Intel. If it is missing you can only run 32-bit guests.
