Keyboard issues

Hallo all,
I am using a Macbook 2.4 Ghz Intel core 2 Duo 4 Gb ram os x 10.5.8 and international keyboard
and I am running a Fedora 13 on the Virtualbox 3.2.6
I am almost sure that during the installation of Virtualbox I chose us international.
In the Fedora options I chose USA international and Apple/macbook/macbookpro keyboard

There are some problems with some keys in particular on the F13 I have to press the key two times
to obtain the following:
" ' ~ `
the correct keys are:
¨ ´ ~ `
moreover if for example I press 'l I obtain just one character: a l with an accent over it.

The visual difference is very small however these keys give me a lot of problems when using some commands (such as chmod) since
they are not recognized. Is it possible to change the keyboard configuration without having to re-install Virtualbox(so that I can try all the
plausible keyboard configs), or do you have any other suggestion?

thank you
cheers,
Paolo

You can change it without problems on either Host or Guest.

Hallo,

It is not clear to me what should I change.
I have no problem in accessing the keyboard configuration either on the guest or the host.
They are both configured on USA international.

One problem is for sure present since this appears:
" Error in activating XKB configuration ..."

As far as I can remember during the installation of Virtualbox I was asked to choose the keyboard layout,
and maybe I made a wrong configuration there.

cheers,
thank you,
Paolo

I doubt VB would ask for your keyboard layout, as it just reads keycodes, and that is one layer below the keyboard layout. It's also the first time I hear someone say that VB asked for your keyboard layout. Aren't you confusing this with the question during OS installation in the VM?

I think you are right,
I have installed VirtualBox only once and maybe I am confusing.

I was thinking also to reinstall Virtualbox to check if there is some kind of setting,
but I was unsure whether the Fedora I installed would be conserved (I assume so,
but since it takes some time to install it anew I didn't try).

Unfortunately I think that this would not be a solution for the keyboard problem.

Paolo

Removing VB won't remove your VMs. That's the case on Linux and Windows Hosts, so I doubt it will be any different on a Mac.

I think it's best to check the Fedora documentation on how to change the keyboard layout. This can be done through the GUI, menu > settings > Keyboard (I think, don't have Fedora). It's also possible to change it for the virtual terminals, but the exact command is unknown to me (Debian uses dpkg-reconfigure console-setup, but it's not the same on Fedora).
