Unregistering Virtual Machine

Someone instead of unregistering the machine, started deleting the files and xml entries associated with the virtual machine in .Virtualbox directory. However, the machine registration information is still persisted on the host preventing the import of the virtual machine's export. Where is this registration info stored or how to erase?
