3.2.6 broken network (OS X Host, Ubuntu Guest)

Post by mixwhit »

I've been running VirtualBox w/o error for months, using an Ubuntu 8.0.4 host on OS X Snow Leopard. Last VB version until today was 3.2.4. Today I had some problem with the guest so I went ahead and upgraded to VB 3.2.6 and upgraded the guest additions as well. Now the network isn't working correctly and I can't figure it out. I'm using bridged and connecting to the appropriate hardware interface on the host (in this case the airport adapter), although I've tried NAT and get the same behavior. The behavior is that ifconfig shows the guest has an IP and is up, and I can ping that IP from the host, and ping the host IP from the guest (by IP number). But I can't get out beyond the host over the network. i.e. ping google.com just sits there with no response. web pages don't load. nslookup hangs. Trying to mount my shared folder (setup as /Users/username/Documents) ends up with a mount from /home/username/Documents, very strange. It's unaccessible.

I tried uninstalling 3.2.6 and going back to 3.2.4. Same thing. I tried installing the 3.2.4 guest additions (whose installer says it uninstalled 3.2.6) and same thing.

Any ideas? Help!

These kinds of problems should be reported to bugtracker. You will need to setup an account there as it is on a different system.
It would also help if you can post the ticket number here so other can see the progress, add information, or see the final results.

So you went to the old VB and it still gave issues? That sucks as I can't install Win7 anymore, was running fine until I upgraded to 3.2.6, what was the point of that update if even on other boards everyone is having trouble? It won't load Win7, will only boot from the dvd drive (won't install a virtual drive for 7 anymore and I know 2 other people having the same trouble).
