i've been using VB since 3.0.10, so reasonably comfortable with updates...

recently updated to 3.2.6, host Win7 64bit. On Win7 32bit guest, I attempted to install new 3.2.6 guest additions and got this:

i've tried reinstall, removed previous GA, turned off firewall, etc.

Any ideas?

Did you try "Run as administrator"?

I will give that a try...both on the host and the guest systems, I am the admin. When I request to install GA, the windows UAC box pops up, though this, I guess, may not confer admin. privileges. thanks for the suggestion

tried the "admin priv"...no worky.

I, of course, am trying to installing GA within the guest with the above result.

any ideas...sure would appreciate any help as I do not particularly want to delete the win7 VM and reinstall it and all of the other programs I've put on the current machine.

I saw this once but then it did not happen again. When you first start to boot the guest press F8 and enter safe mode. Then install the guest additions. On 32 bit Win 7 you can even select the 3D effects and this is the only way to install them. I think the reason is that you may have already installed in safe mode at one time (although not too sure about this since as I say you are the second one that has seen this).

thanks for the suggestion...I went into safe mode, as admin, and pressing the install GA at top did nothing nor did host-D command work? no action happens at all...I wonder if my install is corrupted...

This is expected. Use the file manager and go to the cd and click it. It should run then. You should not need to do this as admin.

I think this is some rare bug triggered with just the right system setup as I have never entered windows safe mode, either for the host Win7 64 or the guest Win7 32 (and ubuntu 10.04, kubuntu 9.10) ever ( I've never needed to)...curious.
