Athlon II X3 440 versus Phenom II X2 550BE for virtualbox

I'm building a new pc and am leaning towards getting either the Athlon II X3 440 3GHz 1.5MB L2 cache or the Phenom II X2 550BE 3.1Ghz 6MB L3 cache. The 440 comes with 3 cores and the 550BE has 2 cores and is more expensive.
Which one would be better for running windows xp/7 as a guest system on a linux host? I might be able to unlock further cores (total of 4) on both cpus. Does the greater cache memory of the 550 make a difference with regards to running vbox guests in seamless mode? Does vbox perform better, faster with more cache memory available to it? Is there anything the phenom cpu has that makes a difference, nested paging for example?
In general, does anyone know what benefits/advantages more cache memory entails?
