Virtual Box installation issues....

Post by otherwhirl »

Hi,
It seems like it should be an easy install. However I keep getting this message: " Fatal: No bootable medium found! System halted.."

I don't understand why. I have a brand new MacBook Pro running snow leopard 10.6.4. I have more than enough memory 4gb of ram and over 200 gig available of hard drive space.
I have a brand spanking new version of 'Windows Vista Ultimate" which includes both the 32 & 64 bit disks.

Any ideas? :?:

Thanks,
Mo

When do you see this warning? Is it when you are trying to install or after the installation and first boot?
Try setting the CD/DVD passthrough to on in the guest settings and see if it helps.

I am also having this no bootable fatal error. I see it when I'm trying to start virtual box for the first time and install the windows os.

I've tried selecting the pass-through option, but am still receiving the no bootable disk / halted message.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using an ISO image or did you burn this to CD/DVD yourself? Or is this a Windows Install CD?

Is it an OEM CD that is a restore CD, or otherwise tied to the original PC. These typically do not allow you to install them unless it is on the machine that it came with. Either way if it does not see it as a bootable install CD it is not going to work.

I'm not a techy, but I don't think it's an OEM cd.

I guess that means I need to go out and buy a new OS for XP.

thanks for all your help
