Hi all,

I guess this question might have been asked before but i couldnt find the link hence am asking again.!!

I have been using vmware for more the 10years now and recently have had some problems with their application.

I have created several guest linux/oracle application within Vmware that i will like to port to VBOX.

I have swept through the interest and forum to find a vmware tool that i be used to migrate vdmx - ovf files.

Run the tool which tool the best of 24hours, i now have my ovf yet vbox can open.

Can someone kindly point me or guard me to a step//step how to move vmx file and open it within vbox.

OVF files are read using "File | Import appliance...".

It remains to be seen whether your VMs will run on a different virtual platform. Sometimes it needs work, and it helps if you prepared the VM for migrating at the VMWare end first (eg. at the very least by uninstalling the VMware GAs). And it's always a good idea to run MergeIDE before migrating a Windows XP image if you have any.

I have not come across a vmx text file (of VMware) to xml file (of VBox) converter.

What I did? I created a VBox virtual machine with the attributes of the VMware virtual machine - as best as I could understand the terms of both products. A little Trial-and-Error was involved.

Biggest gotcha was not removing VMware Tools from the VMware virtual machine before migrating.

Since VBox accepts vmdk files,
1. I just copied the vmdk file(s) (without Tools) to VBox directories
2. and defined them/it under VBox's Virtual Media Manager.
3. Then attached the vmdk file(s) (Settings-->Storage) to the VBox virtual machine.
