Command+Q Acts Like F in 3.2.4

Post by donavaughn »

Have searched this forum and the web for any hint that others may be experiencing the same thing I am after updating to the latest version of VirtualBox for Mac.

Used to be that when I pressed Command+Q, I was prompted to save the state or shutdown my system. After making my selection, VB gracefully quit. Now pressing Command+Q exits me from full screen mode much like Command+F.

Am I alone?

Details:
VB Version 3.2.4 r62467
Mac Version 10.6.3
Running Windows XP SP3

Fixed in SVN. The fix will be available with the next minor release.

Hi Donavaughn,

I had not run into this but can confirm this bug. I am running a similar configuration:

VirtualBox 3.2.4
Mac OSX 10.5.8 Host
Guest = WinXP SP3
Host Key = Left ? (Left Command)

I've found the following experiment gives reproducible results:

1. Start Virtual Machine.

2. Pressing Command+Q (left-hand-side or right-hand-side ?) gives the close VM dialog box:
Close Virtual Machine Dialog Box
Close Virtual Machine Dialog Box
Close VM Dialog.jpg (66.05 KiB) Viewed 1571 times
3. Turn Fullscreen Mode (Host+F) On (or Off if you prefer).

4. Thereafter Command+Q (left-hand-side or right-hand-side ?) toggles Fullscreen Mode on/off rather than giving the Quit VirtualBox VM dialog. This is really strange to see the right-hand-side ? working like the host key (left-hand-side ?) after the Fullscreen Mode is turned on/off.

5. Shutting down the VM and restarting returns the system to the usual functioning of Command+Q as long as the Fullscreen mode is not turned on/off.

After looking into this, I found in a BugTracker search, Ticket #6938 => http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/6938

Note that this bug also shows that changing the screen-mode to Seamless generated the same problem with a Windows Guest.

Thankfully, it looks like this will be fixed in the next maintenance release. Until then it looks like shutdown/restart of your VM will clear this problem.

Just noticed that this bug, Ticket #6938, has been addressed in the 2nd Beta release of version 3.2.6.

So, if your itching to give it a try, check out => http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=32278
