I just upgraded to VB 3.2.4 under OSX 10.6.4 and when I try to load the new help PDF file:
It loads fine when I click on the Mac copy of the PDF file
However when I click on Help Contents... in the VB menu it starts the colored wheel spinning on the Mac and freezes the system for about 2 minutes when it loads.
I can obviously get to the help file, but I am sending this as this may be symptomatic of another problem where VB is trying to run the PDF reader program on the Mac.
Any thoughts?
Help File under help contents... takes 2 minutes to load
Re: Help File under help contents... takes 2 minutes to load
We had some reports about this already. The main problem here is that I can't reproduce this on my Macs. So if there are any hints (additional installed software, fonts, whatever), this would be helpful.

Re: Help File under help contents... takes 2 minutes to load
I wish I could be more helpful - I have a very plain Mac Mini Late 2009 model. No special software or fonts. The host has all the recent updates from Apple and the guest is windows XP and it is also up to date. I do have other macs - with VB, but I was waiting to be sure that this 3.2 series is stable before I load it on the others.

Does the help file open using the same application when opened both ways? Is it opening in Preview or Adobe Reader?andre-CA wrote:No special software or fonts.

It opens using preview both ways. If I click on the file in Mac OS (Host) it opens in preview instantly (this is the default for this Mac). If I click on the VB menu Help -> Contents... then it take 2 minutes after the system is frozen and you get the spinning color wheel of death. Once it come up the system seems OK. It does open using preview the same as when clicked on. It does not make a difference if preview is already running on the Dock.

Re: Help File under help contents... takes 2 minutes to load
The only difference I can see is that when you open the document manually, you're opening the document copy on your desktop (or wherever you have placed it) but when you open it using the Help menu, it actually opens a copy that is embedded in the VirtualBox application package.
I'm noticing the same behavior with VB 3.1.6. When I have a VM running, and the VM has the focus, then it takes a minute or two for the manual to open from the Help menu (and the system is frozen until it opens). If I give the VirtualBox application the focus, then the manual opens immediately.

I don't have the problem with 3.1.6. I will try shifting the focus - but I think it is a bug either way. When you are in the VM pulling down the help menu - I think that the VM will always have the focus. Not sure how to change that. It is under that circumstance that I encounter the bug in 3.2.4

I upgraded to VB 3.2.6 and I still have this exact same problem. I am concerned that this is a symptom of bigger problem.
