XP thinks my media is bogus

3.2.4 r62467

Trying to build new machine and install XP. I have a genuine volume license XP upgrade CD.

But XP keeps telling me "Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a valid Windows CD."

AFAIK, it's undamaged and was being read by Virtualbox with no issue. It's installed OK on straight hardware.

Suggestions?

Set the CD/DVD passthrough on in the guest settings and see if that helps.

OK, looking for that in TFM....

I also tried making an ISO file from the CD and installing from it; no joy either.

.....
I don't find "passthrough" in the User Manual.... Is there a synonym I should look for?

Hopefully they haven't made too many changes to the GUI since 3.1.6 which is what I'm currently using.

Power down your VM if it's running.
Highlight the VM in the list of VMs.
Click the Settings gear in the toolbar, or under the Machine menu choose Settings...
Click on Storage in the toolbar.
Click on your CD/DVD drive (should be under IDE Controller). If you still have the ISO mounted you'll need to change it to Host Drive in the CD/DVD Device pop-up menu.
Click the Passthrough checkbox.
