Ubuntu guest very slow after VM resume

Please help!

My Ubuntu 10.04 VM becomes extremely slow after pausing and resuming the VM. It is also very choppy (for instance, the CPU History graph in System Monitor updates in jumps and starts). This only seems to happen when Visual Effects (Compiz) is enabled. Everything in the guest OS is configured as it comes "out of the box". I tried setting the visual effects to "Extra" and when I paused and resumed the VM, I got a kernel panic on the host. I haven't tried to repeat that one.

I know I can work around this by just forgoing Compiz effects, but I find the window management features very useful.

The VM in running full-screen. I am also running Spaces.

Here are my details:
Host: Mac OS X 10.5.8
Guest: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" (all packages up-to-date as of June 9, 2010)
VBox: 3.2.4 r62467

Thanks very much!
