VB hangs & needs to be "force quit"

OSX 10.6.3
VB 3.2.4 r62431

I can successfully run VB once. When I quit a session, and leave VB running. The next time I attempt to run a session, the window appears, like normal, but just hangs.

This has happened since oracle started releasing it with their name all over the product.

Any ideas on how to generate an error log file, or work around (I know, close VB totally each time) this issue?

Hi RodM,

It looks like there was a problem with the first release of VBox 3.2.4. Check out => http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31799

You might try downloading the new build, build number 62467.

Found the update this morning, whiles the forums were unavailable.

Installed it, and it appears to be working.

Thanks

I spoke too soon.

Just came back to the computer, and it's sitting with a spinning beach ball. VB is hung, and needs to be "force quit" again

Hi RodM,

Can you tell us some more details about your VM settings?

I ran into a similar problem with VBox 2.2.4 through version 3.1.2 (See => http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19085).

RPMurray gave some great advice on this that helped until the newer versions were more stable for me:
This is just a suggestion, but you might try disabling VT-x/AMD-V and see if the problem still occurs.

I have a Mac Pro (early 2008) with two quad cores, which should work with VT-x, but for some reason my guest seems more stable if I turn it off. I haven't had time yet to run enough tests to see if it's a bug, or just coincidence on my computer.

It won't hurt to try.
So you might want to experiment with turning off the "VT-x/AMD-V" and see if the VBox hangs stop. You can also experiment with turning off some of the other features to see if that helps the stability of your setup.

Other general things:

+ If experiments with VM settings don't help with the VBox hangs, try rolling back to one of the 3.1.x versions that worked well for you.

+ The BugTracker has been pretty active. You can check to see if others are reporting similar problems. For example, a recent Ticket #6943: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/6943

+ Make sure your Guest Additions are up-to-date.

+ You might want to consider allocating a bit more memory than 192 MB to your VM.
