running two different versions of VB??

I understand that I can run several machines but must they all be with the same version of VB? I REALLY like the configuration of my VB 3.0.12 (and have no desire to uninstall it!) but would like to experiment with 3.1.8. I went through the manual but found no reference to this query.
Thanks,
Mark

You could do this as long you you install them in two different user accounts on your Mac. VirtualBox stores it's files in the Library folder of the account you're logged on with (unless you change some preferences) but doesn't segregate VB versions, so if you install two versions in the same account they'll be stepping all over each other.

Thanks RP, that makes sense. Now I'm wondering if the changes from VB 3.0.12 to 3.1.8 make it a worthwhile adventure? Seems like a lot of work to reload Windows XP, all the programs & then reconfigure those programs to my liking again.

As long as you don't have snapshots or saved machines, you should be able to upgrade without losing any settings, guests or anything.
To be safe first take a backup of ~/Library/Virtualbox and if you have told virtualbox to put files elsewhere, those too of course.
After that just upgrade....

Oh, well that sounds painless. I assume you mean uninstall my current VB first to wipe out the two snapshots I have & the machine I'm currently running?
Thanks baf,
Mark

No!
In virtualbox you can delete the snapshosts so your machine is fully up to date. This might not be necessary....
But at least don't upgrade with "saved state" make sure that all guest really are stopped.
