[3.2.0 r61806] Audio Issues w/ XP Guest
Posted: 27. May 2010, 16:59
I just installed 3.2.0 (first VB install on a freshly installed SL host running on a MacBookPro2,2) and created a new XP Professional VM (SP3). Here are the details of the guest:
General
Name: Windows XP Professional
OS Type: Windows XP
System
Base Memory: 768 MB
Processor(s): 1
Boot Order: Floppy, CD/DVD-ROM, Hard Disk
VT-x/AMD-V: Enabled
Nested Paging: Enabled
Display
Video Memory: 32 MB
3D Acceleration: Disabled
2D Video Acceleration: Disabled
Remote Display Server: Disabled
Storage
Storage Controller
IDE Secondary Master (CD/DVD): Empty
SAS Controller
SCSI Port 0: Windows XP Professional.vdi (Normal, 40.00 GB)
Audio
Host Driver: CoreAudio
Controller: ICH AC97
Network
Adapter 1: Intel PRO/1000 MT Server (Bridged adapter, en1: AirPort)
Serial Ports
Disabled
USB
Device Filters: 0 (0 active)
Shared Folders
Shared Folders: 1
The audio from the ICH AC97 controller is absolutely horrific. The sound played from the guest is not only choppy, it's distorted, staticky, and crackly. Disabling Nested Paging doesn't make a difference. Turning off Hardware Acceleration in the Audio Device doesn't make a difference either. To add insult to injury, my Logitech USB Headset yields an even worse audio experience. These are absolute show-stoppers due to how I need to use VB on a daily basis! What can I do to alleviate these issues? Downgrade to a prior build? If so, which one? Would logs be of any use? If so, what logs should I send?
