There is an excellent tutorial on how to set a Windows XP system so it can both run as a VM under VirtualBox on a Linux host and also be booted natively at:

Can someone please translate this for using a Windows host?

All that's different is the partition location. In Linux, it's much easier than on Windows. But if you check Google or another search engine, you can find it pretty easy too. It's something like \\.\Device\Harddisk0\Partition0. There is information about this in Windows itself. It should be visible in disk management.
Using the VBoxManage command to list the physical drives will give you the information too.

Which VBoxManage command lists the hosts physical drives?
