Still no USB iin Virtualbox 3.1.8 guest OS

Post by lionelchan »

My configuration: -
Fujitsu notebook S6520
4GB ram, Core 2 CPU
Host OS - Ubuntu 10.04 64bit
Guest OSes - Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.04 i386
Source of Virtualbox - direct download from virtualbox.org (not OSE version)
Creation and configuration for both guests done exactly the same way as previous setup (Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit host, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 i386, Virtualbox 3.1.6). No USB or mouse problem with previous setup.
All USB filters gray out and unavailable with current setup but wireless mouse (with usb receiver) works perfectly. An portable hdd plugged into the other usb port appears in host OS but stay unavailable in any of the guests.
Anyone having this problem?
Any solution please?

The devs are working hard to get USB working properly on Lucid. Until then, have some patience. It's quite a change in system now that Lucid doesn't rely on HAL any more.

Got the same issue as lionelchan, is this an issue with 3.1.8 or something external?

Post the results of lsusb from the host terminal.
As well as from the host terminal/command windows VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use "" if the name has a space in it.
then post (as an attachment) the guest log for the guest that this does not work on.

Nothing is attached, but did you check the VirtualBox FAQ first for USB issues?
