Problem installing XP on Snow Leopard
Hey everyone! I am new to the Virtualbox thing and am having trouble installing xp onto my Snow Leopard Macbook Pro 10.6.3. I have search and ready all the posts I can find on here and the net. I am getting the same "Fatal: No bootable medium found! System Halted." error. I saw the proposed fix of checking the box allowing passthrough. I did this but did not solve my issue. I am now wondering if I have a problem with my cd drive and it not being compatible or something. The drive I have is a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868. I also today downloaded and installed the lastest Virtualbox 3.1.8 with no luck either. So what do you think? Thanks for your help.

Re: Problem installing XP on Snow Leopard
When you get that error message, have you tried going to the Devices menu and choosing CD/DVD Devices > Host Drive 'MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868'? Note that you have to have the XP install disk inserted into the drive before you do this. Sometimes doing an Unmount CD/DVD Device and then doing the Host Drive 'MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868' may cause the VM to start reading it.
If that doesn't work, you could try using the Disk Utility app to make an ISO file of your XP install disk and then under the Devices menu choose CD/DVD Devices and then More CD/DVD Images ..., then add the ISO file to the list and then try to mount the ISO file.

I have tried all kind of combination on inserting and reinserting the disk.
If I try the ISO route, where is the Devices menu? I also have the Ubuntu ISO I may go ahead and try first.
Thanks!

The Devices menu is in the menubar while the virtual machine is running.
While the virtual machine is off, verify it settings. In the System category, in Boot Order, make sure CD/DVD ROM is checked and is before Hard Disk in the Order.
In the Storage category, make sure you have an IDE Controller with a disc attachment. In the Attributes on the right side of the window, you can choose "Host Drive" to use the physical drive or add an ISO to the Media Manager and select it from the list. Press Ok to save the settings and try to run it again.

Re: Problem installing XP on Snow Leopard
Well some good news and bad news. I got Ubuntu installed, not that I really need it, just wanted to play around with it. But, while still trying to get XP to install somehow I have gotten rid of the cd/dvd drive option. It is not listed now under the Device menu. I tried unchecking the floppy drive and moved around the order to put the cd/dvd first but this doesn't help.
thanks!
thanks!

Re: Problem installing XP on Snow Leopard
Ok, after more tinkering I finally got the cd drive back and enabled passthrough again. Still doesn't work installing from cd. I guess I'll try to create the iso now.
