No Ethernet Driver for Windows 2008 HPC

Post by DrakeJameson »

I have Microsoft Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition installed, but it does not recognize the ethernet controller.
I've tried all sorts of things to make it work, but I don't really know what driver to look for to use in this situation.
I have run into the same situation for a Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 for it's motherboard and ethernet drivers.

Can anyone help me figure out how to get either of these servers to be network ready?
I need to get these going to complete an evaluation thesis for my final CSC course before graduating.

Server 2008 HPC in a vm? That's a bit like emulating a Formula 1 race car in a Camry.

What Ethernet card did you select? Server 2008 should have a driver for the Intel Pro/1000 (which is the default for 2008).

I only need the server to be able to setup a microsoft compute cluster for my thesis.
The problem is I don't know what to pick. There is no physical device I can use to find drivers for since it is all virtual.
When I tell windows to check automatically it says it can't find any drivers, which means it does not have a pre-loaded driver that virtual box can make use of.

With the guest shut down (not saved) go to the guest settings for this VM and select the IntelPro /1000 MT Desktop for the adapter. Boot up the guest and it should then install the proper driver.
I have this setup and it does work native. No extra drivers to download.

it may have worked for you, but mine does not recognize itself as possessing any drivers for the IntelPro / 1000 MT Desktop adapter
I have now downloaded the executable driver package from Intel, but it says the platform or OS is not supported by the package

Try using the PRO/1000 MT Server adapter - that works for me with Windows 2008 Server R2 x64.
