mount problem

Was using virtualbox 3.1.6 windows 7 host, debian guest, with guest additions and worked fine.

Then decided to make an XP guest so installed VMLite workstation which added XP as guest to virtualbox. I think this install may have caused the current problem since I first noticed it after.

Now when I run the Debian guest, I am unable to share folders on the host. If I try mounting the shared folder with
mount -t vboxsf hostCDrive /mnt/hostCDrive
I get the error 'mounting failed with error: protocol error'.

Also, if I try to go to Devices and change the CDROM to anything I get
Unable to mount the CD/DVD Host Drive 'E:' on the machine
Debian 5.04. Would you like to force mounting of this medium?

Could not mount the media/drive 'E:' (VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED).

I've gone so far as to reinstall the Debian guest operating system again and still get the same error.

Any thoughts?

VMLite is not supported here. Seek help at VMLite.

I think it is a problem with virtualbox on windows 7. I've uninstalled VMLite and Virtualbox, then reinstalled virtualbox alone from scratch and I still get the same error (VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED) when mounting or unmounting from the Devices menu.

What conditions throw this error?

I have only seen this a few times. Usually (while the guest is shut down) going to the storage section and selecting empty for the CD/DVD and starting the guest fixes this.
