Virtualbox installation abort.

Post by luceliofreitas »

Hi,

VirtualBox-3.0.14_58977_fedora12-1.x86_64 installed and running.

Unfortunately can't update to latest VirtualBox. It cancels, and does't do the job.
Got some error messages using kpackagekit:

Test transactions errors:
file /usr/lib/virtualbox/VBoxHeadless from install of VirtualBox-3.1-3.1.6_59338_fedora12-1.x86_64 conflicts with file from package VirtualBox-3.0.14_58977_fedora12-1.x86_64

file /usr/bin/rdesktop-vrdp from install of VirtualBox-3.1-3.1.6_59338_fedora12-1.x86_64 conflicts with file from package VirtualBox-3.0...

It is clear the file conflicts, but the installation tools should'n catch this problem? Is it a installation bug?
Need help to find the best way to solve this update problem. I want to be updated. Preferably without brute force. :D

Thanks,
Lucélio.

You will probably need to uninstall the version that you have now. If you use the remove and not erase your profiles and VMs should stay and be picked up when you install the newer version.
But I tell everyone to backup and be safe.

Hi Perryg,

Where to issue the remove command? Superuser? Machines powered off? :D
When possible, problem is the possibility of learning more?
Why is this happening? Why installation does not catch this? :( Is it a installation bug?

Thanks,
Lucélio.

The reason is because the new version has changed a lot of things. That is the reason they made it the way they did so you could uninstall and then install the new version and retain your virtual machines.

How, would be from your package manager. Your profile states that you are using the OSE version and I assume you got it from Fedora. Once it is uninstalled then you would get the new version from the same place using the package manager.
