Win7 x64 Host, WinXP Pro x32 and MS-DOS Applications freezes

Post by acidrop »

Hello

I have a new laptop with win7 home x64 and i want to run VirtualBox with winxp 32bit pro guest so i can run some msdos programs that i use for my job.
I tried yesterday to install virtualbox 3.1.6.59338 on win7 and i installed winxp guest correctly on it.
The problem is that when i try to run the msdos programs under winxp guest the virtualbox windows freezes and i have to close it using task manager.
Then i tried to install virtualbox on winxp pro x32 host and using the same virtual disk (vdi) to see what will happen and voila everything worked ok here! I can
run all msdos programs without any problem.
So the conclusion:

Win7 x64 with Winxp pro x32 guest and msdos programs = the vbox freezes
winxp pro x32 with winxp pro x32 guest and msdos programs = everything is working ok

Is there any workaround for win7 x64 because i don't want to format my laptop and put 32bit O/S just for this reason??

Thank you

It might be worth a shot to disable
VT-x / AMD-V

Under the settings for the guest OS, then system, then the acceleration tab.

Alot of issues arise with MSDOS with that feature enabled.
