HI All,
I am running the latest VirtualBox (3.1.6 r59351) on a Mac OS 10.6.3 host trying to boot a converted VirtualPC 7 disc. The disc does not boot and gave the error:
"FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium. System halted."
Perhaps I did something wrong in setting up? I used the command line command "vboxmanage convertdd myDisk.vhd myDisk.vdi" to convert the virtual disc which I pulled out of the .vpc7 package by right-clicking on it and choosing "show package contents" from the contextual menu. I believe the original virtual disc was expandable- not fixed.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Cousin Isaac

Have you tried just using the VHD?

Re: Windows XP Boot Fails with converted vhd drive
I could not use the VHD by itself- when adding the drive I get the following error:
Failed to open the hard disk /Users/cousinisaac/Documents/BaseDrive.vhd.
Could not get the storage format of the medium '/Users/cousinisaac/Documents/BaseDrive.vhd' (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).
So I guess VirtualPC7 isn't supported? Or do I need to go back and alter the VHD somehow from within VirtualPC?
Thanks,
Cousinisaac

Re: Windows XP Boot Fails with converted vhd drive
What's Virtual PC 7? (Like, the Virtual PC in Windows 7? Is this XP Mode you're trying to take?)
And I've used VHDs in VirtualBox on Macs no problem, which means this is specific to this particular file.

Re: Windows XP Boot Fails with converted vhd drive
it's just the version number of VirtualPC I have. It's quite old- for Tiger and previous versions of OSX. It's a Windows XP install on the drive and I am using Windows XP mode.
Perhaps I need to set the VHD to a fixed size from within Virtual PC. I'll try that and see how it goes.

Re: Windows XP Boot Fails with converted vhd drive
I made it a fixed size in VirtualPC, then converted it on the command line again and this time it worked.
Thanks for your help!
