Ubuntu derivatives

I am sure this information must be somewhere, but I have been unable to find it so far.

I was wondering what operating system "version" to pick in the "Create new virtual machine" wizard for Ubuntu derivatives.
Would it be Ubuntu, since they are basically Ubuntu, or "Other Linux".

I am mostly interesting in Xubuntu, but would like to know the answer in general for Ubuntu and other Linuxes if possible.
What about distros that are not derivatives but are still very closely related?

For different flavours of Ubuntu, meaning Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu and what not, you just pick Ubuntu. It's all the same, the only have a different GUI. Kubuntu uses KDE instead of Gnome, Xubuntu uses Xfce4, Edubuntu is directed at educational software (still with a Gnome environment).

As for the real derivatives, like Linux Mint, any will do, but I would go with Ubuntu. Other distro's that look like they are based on Ubuntu, but are in fact not or not quite are more likely to be based of Debian. Debian is the root of Ubuntu and many other .deb distro's (Xandros too for example).

The actual OS choice doesn't really matter much, as it's just a pre-made set of settings like memory, storage controller, system options and icon. There should be minor to no differences in the actual OS choice. Picking Windows XP or Debian for a CentOS guest will work just the same when using the same VM settings.
