UBUNTU 10.04 Guest not booting in virtualbox 3.0.12

Post by sco1984 »

Hello,

Windows 7 Ultimate is my Host OS.
Using Virtualbox 3.0.12 version.
I mounted UBUNTU 10.04 dvd iso and tried to boot up in live mode.
I assigned 1 gb ram everything.
But it's not booting in live mode.
Is it a problem due to version of virtualbox?
Earlier version of UBUNTU is running fine in live mode on same virtualbox release.
Any1 had this problem?
I am anyway downloading latest version of virtualbox.
I thought it'll still good to submit bug here.

Regards,
Amey.

Ubuntu 10.04 was just released 2 days ago. You really need to give the devs time to support it.

Also, you are not giving anyone much information to try to help with your problem. All you say is that it is not booting. Are there any error messages? Can you post the log file from the guest?

Due to various reasons I strongly suggest that you use VirtualBox 3.1.6 as well. Ubuntu 10.04-LTS has changed they way they do things and with the changes to hal and Xorg you will have problems with older versions, including mouse, HDD and other critical areas. You can see what I am talking about here VirtualBox Changelogs

Ok here in more detailed >>

-I built virtual pc to run ubuntu 10.04
-Now I mount the dvd iso via virtual box software
-I boot the virtual machine from DVD.
-Now UBUNTU installer asks me if I want to run UBUNTU in live mode or want to install and more option.
-I select 1st option and hit ENTER key
-Thats it. After this all I see is total black screen with blinking cursor at extreme left top corner for long time.
-I dont see any CD/HDD indications at extreme right hand bottom side.
-I waited for almost 10 mins but same screen.

I hope above info helps.

And I wonder from where can I take logs? inside C:/Program Files/Sun/Virtualbox I see few folder but none of them apears to be a log folder. Can you tell from where to take logs?

I agree that dev team should get some time to evaluate UBUNTU 10.04. Thats why I mentioned in my 1st post, it's just a bug report so that it'll be easy to note down/track down in the version histories and will be helpful for those who are using same version of virtualbox to evaluate UBUNTU 10.04.

@sco1984,
Please read my post just above you last comment. There are issues with Ubuntu 10.04 in the earlier version of VirtualBox. If you upgrade I think you will find that your issues will go away.

Yes Perry it worked on latest version of Virtualbox.
Thanks for the information.

I am just wondering whats preventing from UBUNTU to boot in old version of virtualbox.

Thats not a new fact, that there are problems in a virtualizer with new linux distributions.

So always use a vbox version newer than the distribution. If not exists, always use the newest vbox version.
