Guest Ubuntu 10.04 networking issue

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 beta on VirtualBox 3.16 on MacOSX 10.6.3. The install went OK with full network connectivity. I then did a complete software update in Ubuntu, rebooted, and then installed the VirtualBox Guest additions. I could reboot properly with full networking. Then I shutdown Ubuntu and in the VirtualBox Settings for this Ubuntu distro I set the Display to enable 3D Acceleration. Now when I boot up Ubuntu, I cannot get the networking to work. When I disable 3D acceleration again and boot up again, the networking returns to normal.

I don't see what 3D acceleration of the display has anything to do with networking. Using the same VirtualBox, I have installed 3 other Linux distros with 3D Acceleration enabled and the networking works fine. What I am actually trying to do is enable the Composite Window Manager.

Ideas?

ps: Is that why they call it "beta"
