I'm assuming XP is install in a virtual machine in which case you would go into the virtual machine's settings, go to Shared Folders and choose a folder to share. Then, install the Guest Additions in the virtual machine (while the machine is on, look in the Menu bar for Devices>Install Guest Additions).
Reboot the virtual machine and then open a Command Prompt window (Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt) and type net use X: \\vboxsvr\sharename. Replace X with the letter you want to assign to the shared folder and replace sharename with the name you gave the shared folder in the settings. For simplicity, do not use spaces or special characters in the shared folder's name.

Apparently file transfers may only work on Windows 2000 and newer. Thanks & Regards, TC
