Win 7 disk ejects immediately

Post by millert011 »

I set up a new machine for win7 install properly, i think. hit start and get the "Fatal: Could not read from the boot drive" message. I'm guessing the cd is not configured properly to be the boot source, but I've moved it to the top of the boot order. I've found blogs that go over setting up VB for win7 machine on a mac but they either glance over the cd setup or use a previous version of VBox which doesn't have the same setup windows.

Also, I can't get the win7 disk to stay in the mac. No matter when I insert the disk, VB running or not, the disk spins a little and then ejects. It's a new Windows 7 Home premium disk. I tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit disks and both eject immediately. Is this one problem or multiple?

OSX 10.6.3
15" MBP (bought it today)
VBox 3.1.6 r59351

This problem is resolved. FYI I did have the passthrough button checked as suggested in some posts here. I also saw some posts on mac blogs about cd drives not reading dvd's for some reason, they eject immediately. I tested the drive with a cd and a dvd from mac (iwork) and both were fine. After that the next morning I tried the install disk again and low and behold the vbox machine started and the win7 disk started as well. Install is done and running well.

Are you running the 32 or 64 bit Win7?

I am curious to know if I can successfully run Win7 on Virtual Box on my Mac/Leopard. If I will be limited to the 32 bit version of Win7 that will not be doable because I don't have the 32 bit version.
