install centos 64 bit on 3.1.6.r59351

I had managed install centos 64 bit with earlier versions of vbox 3.1.2 on snow leopard. I had to pass noapic to kernel. With the latest release no such luck. Can someone confirm this is the case? I managed to install the same setup on when the host is linux.
