ubuntu 10.04 betas, slower?

ubuntu 10.04 betas, slower?
was just wondering if anyone has noticed ubuntu 10.04's seems to be noticeably slower than they used to be in VB? screen refreshes etc?

I'm seeing the same thing. I assume it has to do with the changes Ubuntu made to the display, even in console. Bleh.

Ubuntu has steadily been slowing down for the last couple of years. Last year I switched to Debian Lenny and haven't looked back.
Ubuntu on metal might run fine but it does have its moments when virtualised. Debian, IMHO, is lighter and more suitable for virtualised usage.... that and Debian has not replaced Amarok 3 with 4.x... so I've had it on my laptop full time since January :~).
