Fedora Desktop vanishes into a white screen

My knowledge in all of this is very limited, so I will try to give an accurate synopsis in the hope that someone can break this down to me and help me resolve the issue.
My OS is Win 7 Pro 64-bit
I installed VBox 3.1.6
On it I installed Fedora Core 12 (64-bit)
Everything seemed to work fine, including 3D acceleration (which allowed Desktop effects)
Then, I tried install a software which I need for school. It complained about there not being X11 Xterm or something. So I did yum install xterm. The next time I tried to install the software, it installed fine.
I rebooted the machine. I got the login screen. I logged into my account. The machine logs in and then the linux disappears and all I see is a black screen inside the Vbox window.
I disabled 3D acceleration. Restarted the machine. Could log in fine. But now desktop effects were gone.
If I re-enable 3D acceleration in the Vbox settings, I get the same problem.
I looked for the xorg.conf file, but it's not there. I assume what one post said about fedora thinking about dropping it is already in effect.
So... has this been resolved for FC12 and Vbox?
Thanks in advance to anyone who decides to provide me with any help.
