3.1.6 compilation speed boost

Hey, what did you do?
I'm running a Fedora 12 64 guest on a Windows 7 64 host. Both have 4 cores (Intel), I'm mainly doing GCC builds (using all 4 cores).
With 3.1.6 speed has improved greatly. I didn't measure, but it feels like doubled or even tripled speed.
