Failure to open CD/DVD image of VBoxAdditons.iso

Hello everyone,

I use the PUEL version of the most recent VirtualBox with my desktop. I have as a Host, Ubuntu 9.10 running a Guest Windows 7, with Guest Additions', working wonderfully! Today, I installed In my Host Ubuntu 9.10, a Guest copy of Ubuntu 9.10, and made a ROYAL mess of the Guest Additions. I cannot get the Guest Additions' to work in the Ubuntu 9.10 Guest.

Please see the screenshots below, of which I believe may be at the "heart" of the problem. I am guessing that I will need to comment out "One" of the Guest Additions iso's. I don't know how to do this. Any and all advice will be very much appreciated.

Mike

It appears that the guest additions are already mounted.
Anyway shut down the guest and go to the settings are under storage and mount the guest additions from there. Start the guest and then install the guest additions. (do not click on install guest additions) Open the cdrom and run the install.

Thank you for the response and directions, Perryg. By following the instructions, I ran the install for the guest additions from within the VM, by opening the cdrom image and running the installer, and slowly they installed. For anyone who makes this same mistake(s) as I had done, and then follows Perryg's advice, when you run the cdrom installer within the VM, please give the installer lots of time, as it did not install right away, and did so very slowly.

If anyone cares to answer one more question; Will I have to do this with all new vm guest installs from now on? I guess I will find out when I try them though.

Thanks.

Yes. The guest has to have the guest additions installed (in the guest). Since the OS more then likely will not have them.
