VT-x is not available after suspend - alternative solution

Post by terminal addict »

I know that version 3.1.4 introduced a workaround for the "VT-x is not available", but I have tried out something a little different. Note that I am still running 3.1.2.

I have an EVGA 680i SLI motherboard (P33 BIOS), and I encountered the above error regularly after upgrading to version 3. I don't do anything to critical, so I just used the reboot/BIOS reload method described in various places. Anyway, I started thinking about the suspend issue, and thought about the suspend options in the BIOS. The options I have are:

> S1
> S3
> S1 & S3

I had mine set to "S1 & S3", so I started playing with the settings.

I am running Windows 7 x64 with the following power settings:

Code: Select all

Turn off the display: 20 minutes
Put the computer to sleep: 1 hour 10 minutes

Sleep
- Sleep after: 70 Minutes
- Allow hybrid sleep: On
- Hibernate after: Never
Here are the results. "OK" means I did not get the error. "Shutdown/Sleep" means I manually put the machine to sleep.

S1 - Restart - OK
S1 - Shutdown - OK
S1 - Shutdown/Sleep - OK
S1 - Timed Sleep - OK

S3 - Restart - OK
S3 - Shutdown - OK
S3 - Shutdown/Sleep - OK
S3 - Timed Sleep - OK

S1+S3 - Restart - OK
S1+S3 - Shutdown - OK
S1+S3 - Shutdown/Sleep - VT-x is not available.
S1+S3 - Timed Sleep - VT-x is not available.

So, I'm going to leave it at S3 for the time being and see how things go.
