Guest Additions in Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1?

Post by DjIceman »

Hello

I recently set up Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1 and constantly having a 800x600 resolution wasn't quite to my liking, so I tried to install Guest Additions. Installation went well, everything seemed OK and I restarted the virtual machine. Only to find out, that it wasn't booting. The loading screen (with the 4 'dots') kept on loading forever.

It appears that Guest Additions (at least the one provided with the latest VB release) messed something up.

So, is this a general problem or is it just me? If it's a general problem, is there a fix or a workaround out there?

Thank you

Search goggle and edit source code.

Or wait for next VBOX Release.

Tried Google, didn't find anything that could be useful for me, Linux-newbie as I am. :P

There is a fix but you should wait for the maintenance release of VBox. It is due out any day. One of the reasons I suggested 9.10 yesterday.
The fix requires you to use the CLI and VI to edit a file then re-run the vboxadd setup. If you really want I will send you the link to the fix on bugtracker, but it is not suggested for a novice.

I'll probably wait for the release, but can I have the link anyway? :P

Would just using the new G.A. iso (provided in the duplicate ticket) work as well? :P

EDIT: Worked like a charm. :P

Apparently, now, out of the blue, it does the same thing as with the 3.1.4 Guest Additions. :| Doesn't boot, just hangs there on the loading screen. Go figure...

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1. For some reason, using "cd /media/cdrom0" tells me there is "no such file or directory" by that title. It has always worked before. The CD for the GAs are mounted on the desktop as they have always been. Anyone else run into this problem, and find a solution?

I love the new look, plus the window buttons are now on the left, just like my Mac!

PUEL users Install the new version of VirtualBox Version 3.1.6-59338 .
OSE users will need to wait until your OS repos are updated.
