I have the same problem with Ubuntu 9.10 as the host OS. It occurred when my attempt to shutdown the guest OS hung and I had to kill various processes manually (VirtualBox, VBoxSBC, ???). The guest using this disk is now listed as "Inaccessible" in the GUI. You'll notice that everything after Result Code is identical.
I thought that the Imachine UUID mentioned might be important, but I suspect not. The only reference to that UUID that I can find is in the xpti.dat file.

Hard disk '/home/bogstad/.VirtualBox/Machines/Knoppmyth test/Snapshots/{377f15d9-0420-4bdd-9d7d-b5064c391fca}.vdi' with UUID {377f15d9-0420-4bdd-9d7d-b5064c391fca} cannot be directly attached to the virtual machine 'Knoppmyth test' ('/home/bogstad/.VirtualBox/Machines/Knoppmyth test/Knoppmyth test.xml') because it has 1 differencing child hard disks.
