USB Device Error in VirtualBox

I have an IOGear WUSB kit (GUWH104KIT) consisting of a Wireless USB adapter and an Wireless USB hub. The hub connects fine for configuration however the wireless USB adapter can't connect successfully and I have tried VMWare Fusion, Parallels, and VirtualBox with varying levels of success. I use VIrtualBox day to day so I want to focus my efforts here to fix it.
Using OSX 10.6.2 host with VirtualBox 3.1.2 (USB support more stable with my USB HDDs then 3.1.4)
This works fine running a Windows XP instance natively on the same machine.
The device is odd that when it works successfully it starts, has firmware loaded to it and then instantiates as the actual device based on the firmware provided.
On connecting the device is recognized by the Windows XP VM however it fails to start with the IOGear Firmware utility showing a code 10.
I am at a loss regarding troubleshooting and possible work-arounds, hoping some have good ideas. Thanks
