Hey everybody, I have a VM running on Mac OS X 10.6.2. The VM is loading an ISO for Windows 7 Ultimate. The problem is during the initialization phase, the Windows loader errors out, yielding the following error:

Windows Boot Manager

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer
for assistance.

File: \windows\system32\winload.exe

Status: 0xc0000001

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.


This ISO has just been dowloaded from the internet, and after looking for that file under the "windows" directory, I realized that the directory doesn't even exist. I have read some comments on the 32-bit/64-bit issue. This ISO is for 32-bit Windows 7, and the VM was set to be a 32-bit VM. Am I missing something?

Any help would be appreciated.

Try setting the passthrough on for the CD/DVD if that does not work then you may have a bad download.

Thanks perryg. I actually am sharing the ISO I downloaded from Microsoft. I've tried burning the ISO and booting another system and it works. What's disturbing is that Virtualbox is trying to execute this file:

File: \windows\system32\winload.exe

This file I don't think it exist in the ISO, at least not under that PATH.

Hey guys, I've found the root cause: Bad Media! Every now and then (more often than not), the Microsoft website will let you download corrupt data. No MD5 and no way to verify the integrity of the file(s) downloaded. Kudos to our friends in Redmond, WA.
