guest = windows xp sp3 latest update

symptom = go to device manager. clicked refresh hardware. my guest just disappeared.

anybody knows why?

Using advice from a different post on a different issue I disabled the DHCP server for the NAT network device in the Preferences of VirtualBox 3.1.6. For a Windows XP guest on Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit that fixed the problem. I also have a Windows Server 2008 Standard guest on a different host but with Ubuntu Server 9.10 and disabling DHCP and removing the NAT network did not help.
