No bootable media

Post by brb »

I have tried several items and continue to get the "no bootable media" error when I try and install XP Pro

I followed the start-up wizard straight through, and I can create a VM just fine, but when VB goes to install an OS I get the "no bootable" error.

I have researched the forums here and elsewhere and tried enabling pass-through and that doesn't make a difference either.

The CD I'm using shows autorun.inf and works fine on PC machines and the key is good.

Any ideas?

I guess it could be a CD issue, but I've tried two different known good CDs and get the same basic error whether it is VB, Parallels, or VM.....

Oh and my CD drive is the following in case it is a know issue with my drive:

Host Drive 'MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E'

Try turning passthrough on for the CD/DVD (guest settings) and see if it helps

Hey Perryg,

Thanks for replying, but as you might notice in my post I have already tried turning on "pass-through" with no joy.

The only thing I can think of at this time is try turning my CDs into ISO files, or getting a new OS disk, instead of the copies I have that boot just fine in PC machines.

The problem was the CDs I was trying to use, they work fine on PCs to install an copy of XP Pro, but didn't work on either MacBook I tried.

However, got an OEM copy of 7 Pro today and everything followed the installer just fine, though I did enable "pass-through" on CD/DVD drive before attempting to install so not sure if that would have made a difference or not.

Now, to figure out how to get a full-screen and get on with what I originally needed to install Windows on my MacBook.

Install Guest Additions (on the guest).
