VB freezes on startup, means that I can't access the GUI, which is not displayed.

Where are these up-to-date logs?

If you find the time and want to help post this to bugtracker. You will need to setup an account there as it is on a different system.
It would also help if you can post the ticket number here so other can see the progress, add information, or see the final results.

Send them the logs and even the link to here so they can take a look.
I don't know what the issue is here, however, I installed Fedora 12 using the liveCD iso with no issue whatever. Running 10.6.2 on a Mac with VirtualBox 3.1.4. Perhaps it's just a bad download of the iso. I've run into that here and there in the past.

I downloaded the install media for Fedora Core 12 five times, and although the first download was corrupted, all the remain four were ok, yet they wouldn't install on VBox 3.1.4 / Mac OS X 10.6.2. I also tried the FC 12 Live CD, verified it, but wouldn't boot.

Only way to make either of them boot was to burn them on DVD-RW, but in this case, even if the installation succeeds, Virtual Box then cannot start, freezing on startup and NOT UPDATING ANY LOGS.

I still can make a bug report, but a "good" bug report should have its log attached - which is obviously useless in this case, isn't it? - , and an even better one should be reproductible.

The file I installed with was Fedora-12-i386-DVD.iso. It should be 3.2 GB. The only other thing I can think of is trying to install it in an earlier version of VB or re-installing VB. I remember once having some issues with VB after I updated it rather than uninstalling first then doing a fresh install.

Wish I could be more help but as I said, I didn't have any issues installing from the .iso, which leads me to think either something is amiss with your copy of VB or perhaps something with the way you have the guest machine set up. I'm sure I installed Fedora 12 with an earlier version than 3.1.4, perhaps 3.1.2 or 3.0.8. I do know F12 runs on 3.1.4.

Good Luck.

The only difference I see is I have the virtual drive on the IDE primary master and yours is on a SATA port. You might try moving your virtual drive. I did have an issue with one Linux distro trying to run it somewhere other than the IDE primary master. It was long enough ago I don't remember if it was Fedora or not.

f12 works fine for me:

vbox 3.1.4
f12 host (64-bit)
f12 guest (64-bit)
vt-x, pae/nx, and nested paging on (also works on core2quad with no nested paging)

i installed from pxe boot, so can't say if there's a cd-rom or iso issue, never seen it before.

i've not tried guest additions.

List members,

I too am unable to install Fedora 12-i686-Live ISO from a CD onto Virtual Box 3.1.4. I am working on an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard. Would appreciate any advice; thank you in advance.

Except running 3.1.2, doesn't seem to be any solution.

I just downloaded Fedora 13 alpha and unlike F12, I can't get it to install in VB 3.1.4. I know I installed F12 with a version of VB before 3.1.4. Maybe it's a 3.1.4 issue.

btw... I can't get it to even boot from the .iso

hmmm, the latest updates to Fedora 12 caused it to fail in virtualbox. I had to restore the VD from the previous version.
