I just recently installed Virtual Box (3.1.4), and I've set up a machine running Windows 7. Most things seem to be working pretty well, but I'm having trouble with the audio. I have installed the guest additions.
In the details section of the virtual machine, I've tried two settings. Host Driver: CoreAudio, Controller: SoundBlaster 16; and Host Driver: CoreAudio, Controller: ICH AC97. When I go to the control panel of Windows 7, it says no audio devices are installed.
No Audio running OSX 10.6.2 and Windows 7 (64-bit) as guest

You need to select the ICH AC97 in the settings and then download and install the drivers from realtek.com in the guest.

I have Audio Enabled, Host Driver: Core Audio; Control ICH AC97.
I downloaded the AC97 driver, unzipped to a local folder, ran the setup.exe, twice. Still reports No Device Driver. When I go to Control Panel, Hardware & Sound, Sound - manage audio devices: I get "No Audio Devices are installed."
The Multimedia Audio Controller Properties says"the drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)
What should I try next?
***UPDATE!!!***
I looked for another driver, not on RealTek's site. I found one at http://download.cnet [goggle search for "Windows 7" AC 97 ] first CNET site listed.
I only noticed after this install that it said at the top of the window "Version 6.0.1.6305 X64" I have no idea if the prior download was only for x32.
that would be my guess.
