F8 Key needed to install Windows but doesn't work

I can start installing Windows (XP) but in order to agree to the licensing I have to press F8. The problem is when I press it, it doesn't work. Instead it shows the Mac image where it acts like it's changing the lighting settings on my keyboard. But the "hit escape to not install" option works, when I hit escape it stops installing Windows and returns me to the regular screen.
Anyone how I can get this F8 button hit?

Before pressing F8 move mouse pointer in the guest and click into the guest.

And for all having the aluminium Apple keyboards:
the Fn key is located just below the F13 key (right of the Eject key).
