Hi,
i want to install a vm for xp on the sata controller with ahci enabled. so because xp has no build in ahci driver i have to hit f6 during installation to select a custom one for it from a dieskett img. so now, which ahci driver do i need? whre do i get it from?
i tried ich8 cause it sasy something like that in the wiki, but when i choose it first look quiet good and i can select the hard drive and it copys all data to it, but then whan it wants to finallize the installation, i get bluescreens. so i think its not the right ahci driver.
so which one do i need?
thx, spazzt

Re: xp on sata controller ahci driver
I have always found it easier with XP, to enable the SATA controller but not attach anything to it. Leave the VDI attached to the IDE controller and get XP installed. Then once everything is up and running, you can download the SATA driver directly into XP and not have to worry about floppy images.

ok, thx! works so far. booted xp from the sata controller!
but now, how do i know if ahci is enabled? i guess on xp there where a few registry hacks to get it working afterwords the installation, as it is in this case...not?

Re: xp on sata controller ahci driver
AFAIK if your PC did not support AHCI then SATA would not be working since AHCI is the actual controller for SATA.
