The title question sums it up; I just reinstalled OS X on my macbook, and was mulling over whether to get parallels or give virtualbox a whirl.
Has anyone successfully run any of these three applications? And if so, how well do they run?

The Guest OS would be XP or XP Pro, and the mac is Intel 2.1 GHz with 500gb and 4gb RAM.

the answer is YES.

AutoCAD (2007 & 2010) runs well in XP, and MUCH faster in Windows 7 in virtualbox (mac host). Haven't tested the 3D stuff fully yet, but the "CAD" part works.
Revit: haven't got a copy to try.
Matlab: since it is java-based, it should have no problems. Matlab is also available in native mac (under x11)/unix version, but i have to say, the windows feel of simulink (folder/tree view of libraries) is MUCH better than the x11 style of separate windows for each library.

For a matter of interest: MyVirtualHome is NOT working. (3D graphics/OpenGL/DirectX problem i suspect)...
