WIN 2003 SERVER (32bit) guest ON VISTA 64 bit host

Post by cfgunny »

Installed VB 3.1.4 r57640 on 64 bit Vista Home Premium w/SP2. Attempting to install Server 2003 from CD, on the initial start of the 1st VM, results in files loading, then error "Setup cannot copy the file ndis.sys".
This is the first file to be loaded during the install. If I press escape to skip the file, it shows the same error for the next and all subsequent files. The VM can obviously read from the CD, as it loaded all the prerequisite files and created the file system.

I have 8GB memory on the host and dedicated 512k to the VM. I set the hard drive for the VM to 25GB. My processors are 2 Intel Core2 Quad CPU 8200@2.33 GHZ and 2.34 GHZ

Any suggestions will bve GREATLY appreciated! For now, I'd just like to get the OS loaded.

Thanks.

I have just installed Windows XP pro on the VM mentioed above and it went well. I don't think I have a bad CD, as all prerequisite files loaded. Would still appreciate guidance as I would really like to load Win 2003 server.

Try with a little more memory. Other than that we would need the exact guest settings and specific errors to be able to figure this out.
VirtualBox should have created a log file of this and if so post that (as an attachment).
