Can´t mount any USB Device!

Post by vickoxy »

Hi,
i have XP guest on my Mac. DVD Drive is recognized but there is no chance that i mount any USB Device. I did everything-installed guest additions, added to usb devices my SunDisk USB Sticks, WD HD. After i unmount them from Mac, they are recognized in vb menu-but when i try to mount them i have one error message.
I have VB 3.1.2 and MacOS 10.6.2

I want no shortcuts to do, because i need to have usb drive to format them and to make some live USB sticks.

Is there fix for this (i used some time ago VB 2... and had no such issues)?

Hi,

first check that you have the PUEL version because the other OSE version does not support USB. This is explained on the Virtual Box download page.

With Virtual Box 3.1.4, host Mac OS X.6, MacBook Pro and guest Fedora 12, I am able to attach a USB flash memory but I am unable to attach the SD card reader and a USB external drive.

Let me recall the usual procedure to attach a USB device :
1) power off the guest, in the Virtual Box window, select the guest, then Details, USB, Enable USB, add the device you want.
2) power on the guest, click the USB icon on the bottom line, select the device you want.

If the device is busy on the host, then you must eject without disconnecting by alt click in the Finder.

In conclusion, although the procedure often fails, you should be able to mount some USB device.

Internal DVD drive is not USB.

I confirm this again-i can mount usb stick, but no usb card readers and no usb hard drives.

Any fix for this? Some bug?

I use now the newest version of virtualbox-and i always used PUEL version

I confirm it too.
I have installed WinXP guest on VirtualBox 3.1.2 (with guest addition) and install USB printer Canon - it worked fine.
Since upgrade to VirtualBox 3.1.4 (guest addition was upgraded too) usb printer doesn't work
