I have a Mac OS a Host OS 10.6.2 with a ubuntu 9.10 server guest.

I cannot ping the host using NAT or Bridged connection.

ifconfig is set to static ip with the correct ip, gateway, and netmask.

it did'nt work with networking set to dhcp either

suggestions?

Can you show us the output from ifconfig for both NAT and bridged configurations?

Same issue, except it seems as though there is NO configuration for the network adapter inside Ubuntu

Not enough information to be able to help.
Forum Posting Guideline
  • What are the guest settings (especially the network).
  • You need to post the ifconfig -a or ip config /all depending on the host/guest from both the host and the guest.
  • Also post from a host terminal/command windows VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use "" if the name has a space in it.

The reason for the 4 adapters is because I could not get even 1 to work. I was going to try all of them, and if it worked, slowly "unplug" each cable till I found a configuration that worked. As well, I think it's worthy to note that if this VM is running, I do not get ANY internet whatsoever

First thing I would suggest you do is get rid of (3) of the network adapters.
Next if there is a router in the network use Bridged mode, set the guest to use DHCP
If you do not have a router then set it to NAT.
With all of the adapters you have installed Ubuntu more then likely is going to be really confused about the network. I suggest that you remove /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and Linux will configure it on the next boot.

K I've done all those steps, and got the Internet working in the VM... But I have no network access with my Mac Host

EDIT: Think I found the issue: I also had the MAC address matching my adapter. I got this issue resolved now, thanks for your help Perry
